less, but faster.
A lightweight Arch Linux distribution built around Hyprland.
No bloat, no defaults you didn't ask for. Just a fast Wayland desktop you actually own.
what is nyxisOS?
NyxisOS is a small Arch-based operating system that gives you one thing and does it well: a desktop that stays out of your way.
It starts as a minimal Arch Linux install and adds exactly three things on top: Hyprland, a modern tiling compositor for Wayland, a sensible hand-written config, and a curated set of tools that ship with no extras, no services running in the dark, no "one more thing".
What's left is a base you build on top of, the same way you'd draw your own wallpaper in a text file before writing the first line of it.
Base: Arch Linux (rolling) · Init: systemd
Compositor: Hyprland (Wayland) · Shell: zsh
Terminal: kitty · Menu: wofi
Notify: mako · Bar: waybar
Install format: bootable x86_64 image
Everything is pinned and documented in the repo. You can rebuild the exact image that's running on your machine.
Defaults are suggestions. Every pixel of the desktop (keybindings, animations, the bar, even the way windows snap) lives in plain-text config files under ~/.config.
If you can't rebuild your desktop from a git repo, it's not really yours. That's the whole idea.
why nyxisOS?
Four small decisions made before the first package was installed.
-
01
Never a major release
Arch's rolling model means your system always moves forward: small updates, no 5-year waits, no upgrade weekends. nyxisOS only ships the plumbing around it.
-
02
Wayland, preconfigured
Hyprland is installed and wired up: sane keybindings, animations, a working bar. You start inside a tiling desktop, not inside a setup guide.
-
03
Minimal by default
A lean base image with no preinstalled office suite, no browser-of-the-month, no daemons phoning home. Install it, then decide what it becomes.
-
04
Built to be rebuilt
The image is produced from a documented, reproducible build script. If you trust nothing, verify everything, or fork it and ship your own.

The first image is still being tested on real hardware.
When it passes, the release and its checksum will appear right here.
